How to Insure your Volvo S90 on a Tight Budget
If buying car insurance was fun, we'd do it as a recreational sport. But the reality is, it's a chore for most people and we seem to always end up paying more than we want to. Insuring your Volvo S90 is probably no exception.
Step One: Insurance Quotes
The old way of buying car insurance was to make multiple trips to various local agents and get strong armed into a policy that didn't necessarily fit you. Welcome to the 21st century!
The first step to finding lower Volvo S90 rates is to get quotes from all the major car insurance companies. This is fast and easy and only requires you to complete one form.
To compare rates now, have your current policy handy (if you have one) and click the link below. Complete the short form and move on to step two.
Quote Tip! In order to accurately compare rates for your S90, it's critical that you use the same limits and deductibles for liability and physical damage coverages like comprehensive and collision. If you use different limits, you will not be able to accurately compare rates between carriers.
Step Two: How to Insure your S90 for Less
Once you have quotes in hand, you can then consider some of the other techniques for lowering your S90 insurance rates.
- Higher deductibles save money. If you can afford to pay a larger portion of a comprehensive or collision claim, you will pay substantially less for those coverages if you increase your deductibles to $500 or even $1,000.
- S90 replacement parts are more expensive due to the quality of the parts, so you can expect your physical damage rates to be higher to reflect the higher cost of repair.
- Each year make a habit of checking your credit score. If you find problems that may be dragging down your credit rating, address them immediately. This will result in significant savings on car insurance.
- If you're a young driver, you will pay more to insure a S90. There isn't anything you can do about your age, but rates will drop as you mature.
- Consider taking a defensive driving course. You can often make up the cost of the course in as little as a single policy renewal.
- If you have a speeding ticket or other moving violation, you could be charged more for insurance. If you get a ticket, find out if your county or state offers a defensive driving course that will void the ticket upon completion.
- Do not allow your current car insurance coverage to lapse or expire. Insurance companies have a simple way to find out when your last policy ended (called a CLUE report), and if you went without coverage for any length of time you may pay more for coverage.
- Equipping your Volvo with available safety features such as air bags and passive restraints allows you to take advantage of additional discounts.
- If you are a renter rather than a homeowner, you might pay a little more to insure your car. Owning a home takes financial repsonsibility and insurance companies reward those policy holders.
- Small claims that may only exceed your physical damage deductibles by a small amount are better off not being submitted to your company. Just pay the extra hundred dollars or two and keep a claim-free discount on your policy.
- Insurance companies often give discounts to senior citizens and professional organizations, so if you're one of those, check to see if you qualify.
- Insurance companies pay attention to which vehicles are stolen the most, so if your car is frequently targeted by thieves, chances are good you will pay more for insurance if you live in certain parts of the country.
Step Three: Choose a Company and Bind Coverage
Once you have compared identical rate quotes for your S90 and made a decision on deductibles, coverages and other policy options, you are ready to buy your policy with the new company.
The key thing to keep in mind when buying a new policy is you do not want your old policy to lapse. Make sure the effective date of the new policy is on or before the expiration date of your current policy.
If you don't currently have a car insurance policy, make sure you have coverage in force before driving your Volvo off the lot. But if you already have a policy, you will have coverage extended to your new car from your existing policy. Your existing car insurance policy will give you some coverage if you buy a new or used S90, but unless you are already paying for full coverage, you won't have it until you add the vehicle to your policy.
Upon completion of buying your policy, you need to print out the financial responsibility card that must be kept in your vehicle at all times. Replace any old cards and promptly replace expired cards. Depending on your state's statutes, you may be required to file an SR-22 form if you've been convicted of an uninsured accident, DUI or license suspension. Make sure your new company is aware of this requirement and files it promptly.
